with my boyfriend the other night and I LOVED it! Even though it was an alternate telling of events due to time travel and all of the fanboys cried over a silly thing known as continuity, I thought it was a great introduction of the series into the 21st century (Enterprise does not count, in my humble opinion). It had plenty of humor (and some slapstick and common gags, but it was all good), lots of action, Spock beating the juice out of people, Kirk being Kirk, Nimoy being awesome, a random infusion of Tyler Perry (!!!), and green women eye candy for all! It had enough references for casual fans and trekkies to squee over, but it was fresh and didn't require knowing a damn thing about the original series for people to really enjoy it.

But there were no Klingons. SERIOUSLY!? NO ONE TOLD ME THAT THERE WOULD BE A LACK OF KLINGONS!!!

Hmph.

Anyway, even though I hadn't even considered this in my costume line-up, I do suppose I need to figure out something for GMX should we attend. I was considering Wonder Woman or Xena: Warrior Princess, but, even though the event will likely be saturated with people bringing their starfleet uniforms out of the closet, I think I'm going to assemble an Uhura costume for the event.

The question is, which Uhura?

Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura in the new movie?

Or...

Nichelle Nichols as THE Uhura from TOS?

I'm currently leaning on Saldana's representation as it is:

-More visually pleasing (the assymetry in Nichol's uniform irritates me)
-Easier costume to sew (though neither of them are very difficult)
-Easier hair (attaching a ponytail is easier than procuring and styling a wig)

But Nichols still has an advantage as THE Uhura. What to do...

This is a nice, easy costume to make before GMX (if I go) but this can also work for a number of other events, especially...

Yes, you are seeing that correctly! It's a huge interactive tour of props and memorabilia from all of the TV series and movies in the franchise! And guess what else? IT'S COMING TO NASHVILLE!

At least, it says that it is. I can't seem to find any dates anywhere about when it's coming, but it openned in California last year and has been traveling since. Apparently the tour has planned for visiting cities over the next five years and it'll be in specific cities for several months, so I figure that Nashville is just so far in the future that they haven't picked actual dates yet.

Besides, GMX would be all over it if it was happening anytime soon, so I rest assured that it won't just pass me by.

And that's what's up!

Tuesday, May 12, 2009

FINAL GRADES ARE OUT!

Introduction to African American Studies: Le sigh, I don't have the time to work, craft, be awesome, and be pretty all at once *pout*.

So even though Charlotte Russe and Forever 21 are currently releasing styles that effectively appeal to my tastes and sense of awesometacularity, I simply can't afford to revamp my wardrobe. Charlotte Russe and Forever 21 are not expensive stores, either, I'm just poor because I mismanage my money like no one's business.

So I am, once again, working on a shopping list. I need EVERYTHING (I don't even actually just need a wardrobe, I need basics since mine are literally wearing thin) jeans, t shirts, prettier shirts, dressy shirts, LOTS AND LOTS OF SKIRTS, dresses and cardigans. I need all of this, and I need it to be anything but black >_<. My problem is that black is just so much easier to match so I can reuse accessories and not buy one-outfit-items.

But I am trying, as I said.

Just as I am trying to eat healthier. Yes, the ice cream I had for "breakfast" is, indeed, healthier >_>.

*is bricked*

In other, less depressing news, I've done a smidgen of shopping and picked up a cute gray cardigan from Forever 21 with sequin bow detail and it's probably the only thing I will ever wear with sequins on it. It's soooooo cute! As soon as I clean up and take inventory, I'll be posting thing on Poupee. For all of the months that I haven't posted, I don't have much to show for it ;__;

I must call Senora Wisdom tomorrow to insure that I have a job and that I'll be able to work some over the summer. I'm fairly certain that I have a job for next school year and I don't actually need the money, but I want to be able to shop and whatnot.

Yay shopping!

I'm currently looking for a vintagey-looking pair of tan or beige shoes, like oxfords, wingtips, or t-strap mary janes. While I still need a pair of white mary janes, they aren't absolutely necessary.

I'm also thinking about changing my Japanese minor to art or *attempting* to triple minor.

We'll see. I can't fully do that because livejournal is so much better at handling dozens of pictures and what not, so I plan to still use that account for Japan (I'll link it here), lolita, some kimono stuffs and, of course, being able to buy from egl_comm_sales.

So that's not really consolidating, now is it?

*sigh* I'll figure out something.

Anyway, a few more cosplays that I have been considering for a while:

Yes, I am that much of a geek. Great Saiyaman, one day, my cosplay shall be of YOU!

Yes, I am making a Ryo-Ohki kigarumi. Such an epic dork, I am!

Yes, someday I would like to cosplay Mihoshi in her Galaxy Police uniform, but I'd really like the rest of the gang with me, or at least Kiyone so people would know who I am!

And that's all for now. Yay for lack of a real update!

Sunday, April 12, 2009

DAMN KISHA, GET OFF OF THE COSPLAY BANDWAGON AND MAKE SOME SHIT ALREADY!!!

Ok, so I watched The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love (long title, whatevs) and holy shnapples, I LOVE MACROSS! I'm already a huge fan of Macross Frontier so going back to the original and enjoying it as much as I did without having to convince myself that I liked it was awesome!

Yes, there are a few parts that were pretty funny and some randomly gory parts, but it was good and I actually look forward to watching the original series and comparing it to the compressed movie version.

And because it appears that I have a thing for characters wearing gloves:

Yes, I used the picture of the PVC model that is just too cute and should one day end up in my "toy" collection! So yes, re-evaluating my line up for next MTAC, I'm making von Karma and Edgeworth for AWA and the possible mock trial idea Josh presented. For MTAC (since the theme is Odyssey) I'm not only cosplaying Sheryl Nome, but I'm going back in time and cosplaying Lynn Minmay! I'm not sure where I am getting pink boots from, but I'll figure it out. Instead of wearing a black wig (as Minmay's hair is technically supposed to be black) I'm going to wear a very dark blue wig because I like wearing crazy colored wigs >_<.

More geeking out about Macross later, I've got other things to be doing right now!

Saturday, April 11, 2009

Because continue in the trend of cosplaying women who wear gloves:

Officer Jenny. Hellz yes! I should totally have a police brutality stick with me, too, so I can also continue the trend of carrying weapons with me.

And are these not the shit?

WANT!

Friday, April 10, 2009

So I purchased my wig for Sheryl Nome since I was worried that I wasn't going to be able to find it later and it's just a damn cool wig:

This one is very light, yes, but it's got more pink scattered through out and it was the best price I could find. I can't wait to get it and try it out!

Next (after I get back from Japan and assuming I get my job back at Walgreens) I'm going to get my von Karma wig from Ampigory. I decided to get something with a more definite bob, that way I can just style it into place. I'm afraid it's too dark for von Karma, but I'll make it work! After I get both wigs, I'll get the contacts and start work on the outfits

I've also been feeling a bit gothy lately...and not just any regular gothy either, but I'm feeling cyberpunk-esque. Maybe I'll weave that into my rave outfit next year...ha...rave outfit...anyway, ever since I was a wee lil' baby bat I've wanted a pair of dreadlock falls. Now, last year I attempted to make and sport silky locks, however, partially thanks to one very incompetent helper and to my own lack of skill, they didn't work out as planned. This summer, I am ordering several bags of kanekaylon synthetic hair from Ragdolly.net and I am making a pair of black and pink dreadfalls. The dormant goth in me screams hallelujah. I bludgeon her with her own gas mask.

Pictures will come when I've maybe got that figured out.

Wednesday, April 08, 2009

OMG, I SHOULD NOT BE SOOOOO EXCITED ABOUT ONE SINGLE COSPLAY!!!

Ok, so I just went through my stuff to see what I have and what I need for my Sheryl cosplay and I already have the the extra wide black belt(I thought I'd thrown it out ;__;) and boots for the outfit. Digging around on ebay showed me that I don't necessarily have to worry about getting too hot because...well...

That's what's under the coat and chaps. This isn't an official picture, but that's seriously what's under there in the anime. Well...I'm not quite as endowed as Sheryl in the chest area, but I can pad and stuff and make it work, right?

So I found Sheryl's wig:

Edit: Unfortunately, this wig is sold out, but I'm including it because it's much closer to what I'm looking for as far is color and tone. Maybe I'll eventually find another one like it?

I plan to keep looking because I want to find something a bit darker that won't look so harsh with my skin (BECAUSE I'M NOT PALE!), but I love the pink in this one. Most wigs omit the weird pink tint and I think this one is freaking awesome.

I also found Miss Nome's earrings:

These are actually very important accessories, don't think that I'm being anal and trying to get everything just right (which I kind of am, but if these weren't important, I wouldn't bother with them).

Last, but not least, I already know where I'm getting my brigh tblue contacts

These lenses from vampfangs.com come in my perscription and I can use them for both Sheryl and von Karma. These in particular work with dark eyes like mine because they are printed directly on the lense and not tinted or faded like most colored contacts. They may terrify anyone who sees me in them, but my eyes will at least be the correct color.

OMG, THIS IS GOING TO BE SO MUCH FUN! Even though I plan on finishing von Karma and Edgeworth first, I'm just entirely too excited about this ^__^

GALAXY NYMPH SHERYL NOME ON STAGE!

Wednesday, April 08, 2009

Ok, so putting together possible cosplay's for upcoming conventions. You see, I really only have the summer for the most part to make anything so I have to make it count and make everything PRONTO!

First up is SHERYL NOME!!!

OMG, SHERYL IS SO AWESOME, MAY'N IS AWESOME, GAAAAAHHHH!!!

Ok, so I know Alex was talking about cosplaying Sheryl at some point and I know Ambera has already done it, but I've been thinking about it too and while it would be kind of awkward for both of us to cosplay her at the same time, it's not the end of the world. First I was considering cosplaying her in her outfit from the second opening and the last episode:

Not the best picture, but it's basically the corset, a pink/purple tutu-esque skirt, purple tights, and white heels. This would be a nice easy one that wouldn't be too hot to wear depending on the weather and I might have this one ready for AWA so I won't be sweltering in the Atlanta heat. However, I think this is the outfit I want most to cosplay of Sheryl's:

YOSH! So sexy >_<. This would also fit perfectly with next year's MTAC theme. Yeah, I would want to be in the military ensemble. This is one that I'm working on this summer. Since I saw Clan at MTAC, I must do a Macross Frontier cosplay and this is it. I regret not having the time to finish one of these for MTAC this year, but I will do one of them for next year. Next is the ever awesome Franziska von Karma:

I love how both of my possible cosplays have whips ^__^. Anyway, von Karma is damned cool and with Josh as Edgeworth, this will be fantastic! So excited! So much money on wigs! These are my goal cosplays to be done by the end of the summer. Of course, at some point it would be nice to properly cosplay Sailor Mars:

Since I've only ever seen one person cosplay her properly, I must do it and I must do it well. She is not within my goals specifically, but I would like to cosplay her eventually.

Another non-priority, but would still be very cool to cosplay would be C.C. from Code Geass:

I feel that that would probably be a bit difficult to walk in, but C.C. is pretty cool, so I'll tough it out. I'd make he suit all spandex-y and stuff and the boots would probably be a pain to get a hold of, but I can do it. I'm pretty excited abot all of the cosplay's I've got lined up and even though I've never really cosplayed before, I think that this will be quite fun!

However, I am most excited about Sheryl. The thing is, if I get my act together and start practicing and drag my voice back into shape (not going to happen) I might attempt MTAC idol singing (depending on which outfit I'm wearing) "Triangular," "Diamond Crevasse," "Welcome to My Fan Club's Night," or "What 'bout My Star" (even though the last one is technically Ranka's song). That would be too cool except I sound nothing like May'n and I'm not nearly as cool and I'd have to sing it an octave lower than it's actually sung.

*sigh*

I'll think of more cosplays later. Utena might still be a possibility as well as Nadia, but I'm not sure
