Ok, so I saw Star Trek with my boyfriend the other night and I LOVED it!  Even though it was an alternate telling of events due to time travel and all of the fanboys cried over a silly thing known as continuity, I thought it was a great introduction of the series into the 21st century (Enterprise does not count, in my humble opinion).  It had plenty of humor (and some slapstick and common gags, but it was all good), lots of action, Spock beating the juice out of people, Kirk being Kirk, Nimoy being awesome, a random infusion of Tyler Perry (!!!), and green women eye candy for all!  It had enough references for casual fans and trekkies to squee over, but it was fresh and didn't require knowing a damn thing about the original series for people to really enjoy it.

But there were no Klingons.  SERIOUSLY!?  NO ONE TOLD ME THAT THERE WOULD BE A LACK OF KLINGONS!!!

Hmph.

Anyway, even though I hadn't even considered this in my costume line-up, I do suppose I need to figure out something for GMX should we attend.  I was considering Wonder Woman or Xena: Warrior Princess, but, even though the event will likely be saturated with people bringing their starfleet uniforms out of the closet, I think I'm going to assemble an Uhura costume for the event.

The question is, which Uhura?

Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura in the new movie?

Or...

Nichelle Nichols as THE Uhura from TOS?

I'm currently leaning on Saldana's representation as it is:

-More visually pleasing (the assymetry in Nichol's uniform irritates me)
-Easier costume to sew (though neither of them are very difficult)
-Easier hair (attaching a ponytail is easier than procuring and styling a wig)

But Nichols still has an advantage as THE Uhura.  What to do...

This is a nice, easy costume to make before GMX (if I go) but this can also work for a number of other events, especially...

Yes, you are seeing that correctly!  It's a huge interactive tour of props and memorabilia from all of the TV series and movies in the franchise!  And guess what else?  IT'S COMING TO NASHVILLE!

At least, it says that it is.  I can't seem to find any dates anywhere about when it's coming, but it openned in California last year and has been traveling since.  Apparently the tour has planned for visiting cities over the next five years and it'll be in specific cities for several months, so I figure that Nashville is just so far in the future that they haven't picked actual dates yet.

Besides, GMX would be all over it if it was happening anytime soon, so I rest assured that it won't just pass me by.

And that's what's up!

Still trying to be "prettier".  Le sigh, I don't have the time to work, craft, be awesome, and be pretty all at once *pout*.

So even though Charlotte Russe and Forever 21 are currently releasing styles that effectively appeal to my tastes and sense of awesometacularity, I simply can't afford to revamp my wardrobe.  Charlotte Russe and Forever 21 are not expensive stores, either, I'm just poor because I mismanage my money like no one's business.

So I am, once again, working on a shopping list.  I need EVERYTHING (I don't even actually just need a wardrobe, I need basics since mine are literally wearing thin) jeans, t shirts, prettier shirts, dressy shirts, LOTS AND LOTS OF SKIRTS, dresses and cardigans.  I need all of this, and I need it to be anything but black >_<.  My problem is that black is just so much easier to match so I can reuse accessories and not buy one-outfit-items.

But I am trying, as I said.

Just as I am trying to eat healthier.  Yes, the ice cream I had for "breakfast" is, indeed, healthier >_>.

*is bricked*

In other, less depressing news, I've done a smidgen of shopping and picked up a cute gray cardigan from Forever 21 with sequin bow detail and it's probably the only thing I will ever wear with sequins on it.  It's soooooo cute!  As soon as I clean up and take inventory, I'll be posting thing on Poupee.  For all of the months that I haven't posted, I don't have much to show for it ;__;

I must call Senora Wisdom tomorrow to insure that I have a job and that I'll be able to work some over the summer.  I'm fairly certain that I have a job for next school year and I don't actually need the money, but I want to be able to shop and whatnot.

Yay shopping!

I'm currently looking for a vintagey-looking pair of tan or beige shoes, like oxfords, wingtips, or t-strap mary janes.  While I still need a pair of white mary janes, they aren't absolutely necessary.

I'm also thinking about changing my Japanese minor to art or *attempting* to triple minor.

We'll see.  Off to the internet!

Well, Japan was canceled and here I am, not on a plane.

Basically, it's all friggin' swine flu's fault.

Our group leaders didn't want to have to deal with the airports and apparently there was concern about us bringing it over and giving it to the elementary school children that we'd have been teaching.

I was so looking forward to my homestay, too.

She seemed really sweet.

She told me to call her Misa-chan ;__;.

*sigh*

I'll post again later while I try and figure out what I'm doing this week since I'm not supposed to start working until the 10th.

Ok, sooooooo

I think I'm going to consolidate into this one journal.  I can't fully do that because livejournal is so much better at handling dozens of pictures and what not, so I plan to still use that account for Japan (I'll link it here), lolita, some kimono stuffs and, of course, being able to buy from egl_comm_sales.

So that's not really consolidating, now is it?

*sigh* I'll figure out something.

Anyway, a few more cosplays that I have been considering for a while:

Yes, I am that much of a geek.  Great Saiyaman, one day, my cosplay shall be of YOU!

Yes, I am making a Ryo-Ohki kigarumi.  Such an epic dork, I am!

Yes, someday I would like to cosplay Mihoshi in her Galaxy Police uniform, but I'd really like the rest of the gang with me, or at least Kiyone so people would know who I am!

And that's all for now.  Yay for lack of a real update!
